Abstract

Education is an essential factor to build a developed nation. People with better education will have more opportunities to develop themselves, acquire more knowledge, and create a better future for society. Therefore, it is important to maintain the quality of education provided in certain communities, even though there is education inequity problem.

Educational inequity is the phenomenon where the environment a child is born determines the quality of his or her education. Several efforts have been taken in addressing educational inequity problem, and one of those efforts is Teach for America (TFA).

This program evaluation is conducted to assess TFA in Charlotte, North Carolina. This program evaluation is designed to measure the impact of TFA on students’ scores in math and reading in public schools in Charlotte, North Carolina. The second goal of this evaluation is to improve teaching effectiveness by TFA teachers. This program evaluation combines both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess TFA program in Charlotte. In a long term, this program evaluation is expected to give recommendation to improve TFA program in Charlotte, North Carolina. The recommendation should cover issues of teaching effectiveness, teaching style, learning style, and learning environment.
