Tweet Review on The Future: Six Drivers of Global Change by Al Gore

This is my tweet (@yudoanggoro) review on The Future, a book by Al Gore. This 592 pages book was launched last week, January 29, 2013.

1. After successfully revealed “an inconvenient truth” in 2006 (he got Nobel for Peace for this), now Al Gore attempts to envision our future #TheFuture

2. There are six drivers of global change, according to Al Gore #TheFuture

3. First, what he calls “Earth Inc”, our attempt to integrate capital, labor, consumer, and markets in holistic way #TheFuture

4. Second, ” The Global Mind”, the way advanced technology has reshaped our way of communicating and interacting with people #TheFuture

5. Third, the shift of global power, from the US dominated system to a more decentralized systems, thanks to the emerging economies #TheFuture

6. Fourth, Our greediness has led us to unsustainable growth in consumption, pollution, and depletion of energy sources #TheFuture

7. Fifth, the more important and significant role of medical, agriculture, and molecular science to human’s life #TheFuture

8. Sixth, The radical disruption of the relationship between the ecosystem and human beings (degradation of life) #TheFuture

9. It seems that Al Gore has switched his role to futurologist now #TheFuture

10. Making prediction as what Alvin Toffler (Future Shock) and John Naisbitt (Megatrends) did several years ago #TheFuture

11. Several suggestions from Al Gore for us to face the future #TheFuture

12. First, and our most priority, we need to create an open space for discussion. He calls it as open “public squares” #TheFuture

13. Open space for discussion means accelerating the transition of democratic institution…through internet #TheFuture

14. The same goes to media. He says, one way, conglomerate-controlled television medium has been suffocating the free flow of ideas#TheFuture

15. Well, did he learn that case in Indonesia too? (The conglomerate-controlled media) πŸ˜€ #TheFuture

16. The same digital approach should also be applied to access to health care #TheFuture

17. This is what we usually call “precision medicine” #TheFuture

18. Internet should reinforce a “circular economy”, characterized by higher level of recycling, reuse, and efficiency in using energy#TheFuture

19. For pollution, placing a tax on CO2 should be considered so that the revenue can be returned to tax payers #TheFuture

20. The value of public goods shud be recognized, the creation of more public goods-health care,education,transportation- provide jobs#TheFuture

21. Most importantly, we desperately need leadership that is based on the deepest human values. Damn, kena banget nih #TheFuture

22. eh, most of our discussions are public policy problems, so let’s study public policy πŸ™‚ #TheFuture
